Kath became Head of Scargill Infants

1987

Kath applied for the Headship at Scargill Infants School and got it. She worked very hard at improving the school, carefully selecting new staff to replace the older staff as they retired. She had new building and decorating work done, she applied for appropriate grants, and entered award schemes. Always with an eye to motivating and training the staff. She was careful to be inclusive and always thought of all the staff as a family, cleaning staff, office staff, and mid-day assistants were always as important to her as management staff and governors. She believed that every single person who worked in the school, full-time or part-time should understand that they had an important role to play in developing the children's lives. She studied for and got an MSc in Education Management whilst being excellent at her job and excellent as a wife and mother. She was truly remarkable. She got outstanding reports for the school from OFSTED, and then became a part-time inspector herself, the fees from this work went back into the school.

The results were outstanding and as you can see elsewhere in this tribute the children and the parents loved school as much as the staff.
