Kath became a Deputy Head Teacher. Then a Head

After the birth of our daughter, and Kath's return to teaching at the earliest opportunity, she applied for and got a post as a Deputy Head Teacher on the Garrison Estate in Purfleet. This was only a short distance from our home in Aveley but it was a very challenging school. The Garrison Estate had been built mainly to re-house social housing tenants who were being re-located from the demolition of the somewhat notorious "Poet's Estate" in Tilbury. There were some lovely families living on the Garrison, but there were also some rogues. I knew it also, from my fire service work, as a place with more than its fair share of emergency incidents, and as a place where we always had to leave a guard on the fire engine when you attended an incident there. Kath of course relished the challenges and became a very popular Deputy Head with the parents. After a few years the previous Head Teacher retired and Kath applied for and got the job as Head Teacher. The school went from strength to strength. Our children both went to the school themselves in their turn, and they were very happy there.
